Abstract

This article explores a creative project in which the poem Baldrs Draumar (Baldr’s Dreams) from the Poetic Edda is adapted through visual illustrations to enhance understanding of the myth. The poem is significant in Viking age culture, offering vital context to Baldr’s death and Loki’s imprisonment, which are central to the Ragnarok legend. The project incorporates visual elements to enrich readers' comprehension, using illustrations to clarify complex themes and references within the text. For example, a line referring to the Seeress as the “mother of three giants” is interpreted with the inclusion of Angrboda, mother of Fenrir, Jormungandr, and Hel, in line with Ragnarok themes. The project combines research, analysis, and visual interpretation, offering a deeper engagement with the poem while appealing to both narrative and visual sensibilities.
