Abstract

In this year’s editorial, Editor Katrín Níelsdóttir reflects on the excitement of 2025 and the importance of honoring 150 years since the founding of New Iceland in 1875. This milestone will be marked by special features, including interviews with remarkable women who have sustained the Western Icelandic spirit through generations. The editorial highlights upcoming events such as the INLNA convention in Gimli, an especially vibrant Íslendingadagurinn, and commemorations like the October 11th landing anniversary. Katrín also pays tribute to the late Dustin J. Geeraert, a beloved scholar and artist whose loss is deeply felt. She announces the digitization of all past issues on Timarit.is, thanks to the National Library of Iceland, and acknowledges Ryan Johnson for his vital role in editing, website upkeep, and research verification. As The Icelandic Connection returns to its volunteer roots and embraces a fresh digital presence, Katrín invites readers to contribute their stories and join in celebrating a legacy of resilience and community.
